In the frame of our BMBF research titled: “Detection of fresh groundwater bodies within the Mediterranean sub-marine coastal aquifers offshore Israel using marine geoelectromagnetic methods” we have utilized the R/V Mediterranean Explorer for several one week campaigns for collecting Electromagnetic (TDEM) measurements offshore Israel between Ashdod to Tel-Aviv. The aim of the research is to locate the offshore extension of fresh groundwater within lower sub-aquifers of the coastal aquifer. Initial results indicate the existence of a relatively freshwater body within the sub-seafloor aquifer.
All the data is being processed and is part of master and doctoral studies of Israeli and German students.
